Meditations upon Psalms
Inner Healing and Wholeness
God’s Faithfulness to All Generations
Psalm 103:1-5 – Inner Healing and Wholeness
The opening verses of Psalm 103 offers many reasons for perpetual praise of God. First, the Psalter exhorts himself to glorify God with “all [his] inmost being.” Second, he instructs his soul to recall all of the benefits of praising God. Third, the psalmist remembers that the Lord “forgives all [his] sins and heals all [his] diseases.” What amazing blessings! Fourth, he reflects upon God’s redemption of his life from the pit of depression, despair, disease, debt, divorce and death. In contrast, sixth, the Lord crowns the psalmist with love and compassion. Moreover, seventh, the Lord “satisfies [his] desires with good things.” In essence, God blesses the psalmist with inner healing and wholeness. He removes all diseases, internal and external, and obstacles from the psalmist’s life. This freedom encourages and empowers the psalmist to actualize his potential. The culmination of these myriad blessings resembles daily and holistic renewal like that of an eagle. As a result, the psalmist praises Almighty God with his whole being. Consider these bountiful blessings as today unfolds.
Psalm 100:5 – God’s Faithfulness to All Generations
The culminating verse in the one hundredth psalm reminds us of the goodness, unfailing love and faithfulness of Almighty God. “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:5) God’s grace flows naturally out of His intrinsic goodness. In fact, goodness is one of the four definitive attributes of God. Because He is good, God not surprisingly shares the super abundance of the universe with His children. He freely gives His blessings and provisions without requiring any human merit or effort. Hence, His unmerited favor is a bountiful kindness that flows to us out of His desire to give from the infinite repository of goodness in God’s character. Second, God loves unfailingly; again, human intention or action does not determine whether He loves us. The great apostle of love, John, in his First Epistle says defines God simply as love. Divine love is both loyal and sacrificial. Hence, it never fails regardless of human choices or circumstances. The constant bestowal of God’s unmerited favor and His attentive lovingkindness which generously provides our needs equal His unquestionable faithfulness. Wonderfully, God extends His amazing blessings to each generation! My grandchildren and their children will know that God’s incredible love will uphold them in any challenge, adversity or celebration.
